A Noble Mission -
To Unravel the Mysteries of Earth

Understanding the Earth in its totality, transcending the boundaries of disciplines, and gaining knowledge of the interactive and competing processes that shape the Earth-from its evolution to the present status of ever-increasing demand for natural resources-calls for an all-encompassing and multidisciplinary approach. The establishment of CESS in 1978 by Prof. C. Karunakaran was a recognition and realisation of the need to study the Earth's processes in its total perspective. In 2014, the institute gained national stature under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, and re-envisioned it as the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), dedicated to advancing our understanding of Earth's dynamic systems-committed to scientific excellence, sustainability, and a deeper comprehension of the planet in all its complexity.
