 Central Chemical Laboratory (CCL)

The Central Chemical Laboratory (CCL) provides vital amenities and professionals dealing with fundamental chemical analysis involved in Earth System Sciences Research. Recently, established a brand new futuristic wet chemical lab with adequate safety measures as well as standard chemical reagents, certified reference materials, field equipments, sensors, common laboratory equipments and glassware apparatuses. The lab is well equipped with state-of-the-art analytical instruments which are beneficial for the analysis of environmental, industrial, household and agricultural samples, which include water, soil, sediment, rock, agro materials, and microbiological/planktons/benthos and related organisms. The analytical domain encompasses a broad spectrum of research areas including hydrobiogeochemical, climate change studies, environmental pollution, emerging contaminants dynamics including microplastics, chemical speciation, pesticide dynamics and biodiversity aspects. The CCL is also well equipped with facilities for conducting mitigation research and carbon capture studies. The water, soil, rock and sediment are the vital resources of the natural environment that are put under severe pressure by multiple socio-economic utilizations. Hydrobiogeochemical investigations of Earth system resources provide adequate information on the natural and anthropogenic mechanisms that are responsible for changes in the natural environment. In this regard, CCL at NCESS plays the crucial role in getting analysed wide range of chemical properties of rock, soil, water and sediment specimen collected by different researchers working on Earth System Sciences. The CCL at NCESS consists of three main facilities dedicated to three extensive research topics in Earth System Sciences: hydrochemical investigations along with microbiological/planktons/benthos analyses, geochemical analytical facilities and instruments related to environmental science, pollution assessment and mitigation research. Apart from this, the instrumental facility is extended to rest of the Research Groups in NCESS to cater their research activities. In addition to this, outside samples from other Research Institutions, Departments, Colleges, Universities, Common people, Societies and Government/non-Government agencies are carrying out on payment/service basis. Moreover, hands-on instrumental training programme is frequently conducting for the school/college level students for their career growth. MSc/MTech students are also engaging in the CCL for their dissertation/internship programme as part of their curriculum from various Universities/Colleges in India and abroad. Theme based facilities/instruments available at CCL:

  • Hydrochemical Analytical Laboratory
  • Geochemical Analytical Laboratory
  • Environmental Pollution Assessment and Mitigation Laboratory
  • Marine and Microbiology Laboratory
