Preventive Vigilance and the Vigilance Act

In observance of the "Three Month Campaign" on Preventive Vigilance, which runs from 16th August to 15th November 2024, the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) organized a quiz program centred on the themes of "Preventive Vigilance and the Vigilance Act" at the NCESS Campus on 5th November 2024. Three teams, each comprising students from Loyola College of Social Sciences, Sreekariyam, and All Saints' College, Thiruvananthapuram, were selected through a pre-screening process conducted by their respective institutions to participate in this event. This initiative plays a crucial role in engaging the younger generation in developing a comprehensive understanding of preventive vigilance, thus promoting the growth of responsible citizenship.

The National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) successfully conducted a training program for international students from October 21 to October 26, 2024. This initiative was carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Earth Sciences Government of India (MoES) and the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The week-long training program featured lectures on various topics within the realm of Earth Sciences, delivered by esteemed scientists, in addition to laboratory visits and practical application training. The program culminated with a comprehensive field visit, which significantly enhanced the participants’ overall learning experience.

Vigilance Awareness Week 2024

The National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) is observing Vigilance Awareness Week from October 28 to November 3, 2024, under the theme "Culture of Integrity for Nation's Prosperity." The observance commenced today with Prof. N.V. Chalapathi Rao, Director, NCESS, administering the Integrity Pledge to the NCESS staff. This event was followed by a ‘March’ from NCESS to Akkulam Park, where staff members raised awareness regarding the significance of integrity in public governance. Subsequently, Shri Bijumon E.S., Superintendent of Police at Kerala Police, delivered a talk on "Anti-Corruption Agencies and Their Functions." This presentation provided valuable insights into the essential role of anti-corruption agencies in fostering transparency and integrity within governance.

The impact of rainfall and land use on soil erosion in Kerala's Karaman River Basin through a GIS-based analysis

The two-day Brainstorming Workshop on ‘Critical Zone Studies for Sustainable Development: Focus on Indian Critical Zone Observatories’ was inaugurated today by Prof N.V.Chalapathi Rao, Director, NCESS. This workshop aims to facilitate discussion between multidisciplinary experts from India and France on charting future directions for Indian Critical Zone Observatories. The Workshop concluded on 28th May 2024 with a valedictory function presided over by the Director, NCESS. The brainstorming workshop deliberated the status and future of Critical Zone initiatives and its importance for the sustainable development of India. The discussions, led by fifteen experts from different fields of Earth Sciences from India and France, focused on the current Critical Zone research in India and stressed the need for setting up an adequate number of CZOs in different agro-climatic regions of the country.

राष्ट्रीय पृथ्वी विज्ञान अध्ययन केंद्र में 10/01/2024 को विश्व हिंदी दिवस मनाया गया। समारोह का उद्घाटन डॉ. डी. बाला सुब्रहमण्यम, वैज्ञानिक "एसजी" एवम प्रधान, एनएएम शाखा अंतरिक्ष भौतिकी प्रयोगशाला, विक्रम साराभाई अंतरिक्ष केंद्र, तिरुवनंतपुरम ने किया। डॉ. वी. नंदकुमार, निदेशक, एनसेस और श्री. रजत कुमार शर्मा, वैज्ञानिक डी एवं राजभाषा कार्यान्वयन अधिकारी, एनसेस मंच पर उपस्थित थे। मुख्य अतिथि द्वारा “संख्यात्मक मौसम पूर्वानुमान: लक्ष्मण रेखा - अपने अंतर-विरोधों से धर्मयुद्ध” विषय पर एक व्याख्यान हुआ। व्याख्यान के बाद विशेष हिन्दी पुरस्कार योजना के विजेताओं को मुख्य अतिथि एवं निदेशक द्वारा पुरस्कृत किया गया। समारोह में एनसेस के समूह प्रमुख, वरिष्ठ वैज्ञानिक और अधिकारीगण सहित सभी कर्मचारी शामिल हुए।

10th Foundation Day celebrations of NCESS

As part of the NCESS 10th Foundation Day Celebrations, students from various colleges across Kerala and the public visited NCESS today for the "Open Day" event, interacted with our scientific community, and explored our state-of-the-art laboratories. Prof. (Dr.) Janki Andharia, Chairperson, Centre for Disasters and Development, Jamsetji Tata School of Disaster Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, delivered a lecture today on the topic "Navigating the Nexus: Towards bridging the Science Policy - Society divide in Disaster Management" as part of the 10th Foundation Day celebrations of NCESS.
