Discover latest research led by the National Centre for Earth Science Studies NCESS examines soil erosion and sediment yield in Kerala's Karamana RiverBasin using GIS-based RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) and SDR (Sediment Delivery Ratio) models, focusing on the effects of rainfall, land use and land cover. It offers critical insights into soil conservation and sustainable development for tropical river basins facing global climate change. The findings highlight how extreme climatic events, such as heavy rainfall, significantly increase soil erosion in low and medium-risk areas, underscoring the importance of proactive erosion control measures.
